Mookaite is a variety of jasper, formed from the microscopic remains of tiny radiolarians, which create the sedimentary rock structure that forms Mookaite crystal. This process occurs in only one place in the world, within the Kennedy Ranges near Gascoyne Junction, Windalia Radiolarite, Western Australia. It is said to have been formed here in the Cretaceous Period, around 145-146 million years ago.
