Tiger eye is a variety of the quartz mineral composed of silicon and oxygen. It displays an amazing yellow and brown banded pattern, known in geology as chatoyant. This colour and layering forms when quartz forms over an existing bluish-grey crocidolite mineral, and eventually replaces it. During this process, the iron within the crocidolite dissolves and stains the quartz, providing the golden yellow to brown colour of the tiger eye.

Tiger eye is linked to the fire element and is believed to bring light to situations, helping us to see things more clearly.
