Nephrite Jade is one of two varieties of Jade, characterised by being rich in magnesium. Both varieties of Jade are minerals that form through metamorphism, mostly found in metamorphic rocks located near subduction zones. Subduction zones are tectonic plate boundaries where one tectonic plate sinks underneath the other. Usually these occur near volcanoes. Geographically, much of the world's jade is found around the rim of the Pacific Ocean at subduction zones where oceanic crust sinks beneath continental crust and volcanic island arcs.
